Entrepreneurship Unit Motivation and Creative Tendency

Question: Discuss about theEntrepreneurship Unit for Motivation and Creative Tendency. Answer: Introduction The aim of this paper is to assess the character traits whether it is of the entrepreneur. This report presents the results of GET 2 test and Test My Creativity. The Get 2 test can be used as an educational tool to assess and think about enterprise. The self-assessment test gives an idea of the enterprising potential. The test depicts certain characteristics such as motivation, creative tendency, calculated risk taking and locus of control. Another test by AULIVE, Test My Creativity can be measured across eight different metrics- curiosity, perspective, boldness, paradox, persistence, complexity, abstraction and connection. This test is a systematic method designed to measure the space of creativity so that it can be used as an inspiration tool. This report critically analyses both the test results as they are slightly different from the reality. Personal experiences, background and other examples are shared that support my arguments. Enterprising Results The General measure of Enterprising Tendency (GET) test as developed by Johnson and Caird in 1987-1988 rests on the premise that every individual has certain entrepreneurial characteristics that can be nurtured through education and training (Caird 2017). The test has three results that portray individuals as: highly enterprising, occasionally enterprising and les enterprising. According to the results of Get2 Enterprise, I am occasionally enterprising with a 63% score. The results of the test suggest that I am likely to have strengths in some contexts and enterprising characteristics. Being at the medium stage, I am unlikely to get involved or set-up an innovative growth-oriented global business. I have a greater tendency to work under an entrepreneur or engage myself in voluntary community projects. I would agree with the result as being occasionally enterprising as I take calculative risks. I am not willing to invest in a new business all by myself and would prefer gaining experience by working under an entrepreneur. However, I would disagree with the being involved in voluntary community projects in my leisure time. The result is presented in the below figure. Figure 1: GET Results Source: (Caird 2017) Looking at the individual parameters and analysing them, a detailed description of reasons and entrepreneurial characteristics can be explained. According to the scores of need for achievement, I wish to consider tried and testing enterprising ideas. I would agree with these scores as I choose enterprising ideas that fit with my lifestyle. I rely on my ability but I prefer having a tried and tested approach for the same. I have optimistic rather than a pessimistic look to some extent. I argue that I might not have a completely optimistic approach, but I am not a pessimist. Further, I believe in effective time management. This trait is a part of my upbringing as my parents value time. They prioritize their tasks and manage their time effectively. My determination to meet the objectives is high even during difficult times. I am willing to work extremely hard and long to complete my tasks. However, I do not defend my opinions or ideas for long. I have a result-oriented approach than str ong task orientation. I need to be careful to maintain a healthy work life balance. Both my health and important relationships must be taken care of. Hence, the score of need for achievement as medium can be called correct as some drives for achievement are high, whereas others are low. Secondly, the result depicts that my need for autonomy is low. According to the result analysis, I prefer to be advised about managing my work rather than taking charge of the enterprise. I would not completely agree with this result as it is slightly different in reality. My work preference is usually individualistic and I prefer to work alone that makes my autonomy level high. I agree with the fact that I do not hold strong opinions when I have to talk about my own issues. Regarding leadership, I prefer to be in charge in certain situations. I agree with the fact that I am conventional and not prepared to stand out as being different to others. I have an individualistic approach, but not completely unresponsive to group pressure. I prefer to work alone but when working in a group, I like to ensure that things are going in line. I take initiative and instruct other people while dividing tasks among them to avoid confusion. Hence, I do not agree with the low autonomous results. In my opinion, I possess medium need for autonomy as there are high and low drivers. Thirdly, the results depict that my creative tendency is medium. Rather than choosing disruptive and radical innovations, I prefer to consider tested and tried enterprising ideas that are simple to implement in my existing lifestyle. I agree with the results as I am not very creative. I am not always a person who has an innovative tendency. I prefer looking at the successful enterprising models and making slight improvements to it. However, I am not always versatile and able to draw on problem solving. I am highly curious in knowing new ideas and make good guesses when necessary. Hence, I agree with my results on creative tendency. I need to work on my ability to express my inventive or creative activities. Fourthly, my score on calculated risk taking is medium. It is interpreted that I take calculated risks with less intensity. The guidance of my parents regarding taking calculative risks and not foolish ones support this parameter. My father has taught me to keep eyes open and go with the plan rather than taking high intensity and impulsive decisions on risk-taking. I use information to calculate the probability of success of my actions. I might calculate the costs and evaluate the risks inaccurately because of which I take fewer risks. I need to seize more opportunities and enhance information gathering to take calculated risks. Hence, I agree with my scores on risk taking. The last entrepreneurial quality is internal locus of control. I score medium as I do not have a strong internal locus of control. It is interpreted that I need to develop self-confidence and enterprising skills so that I can start a successful venture of my own. I may need to exert greater control for developing my ideas. I agree that I possess low self-confidence. There have been situations when I do not wish to or fail to express my ideas or stand by it strongly. I rely on other people who can engender greater business risk. I believe that I can do better if I express strong will in support of my ideas or arguments. Creativity Results The TestMyCreativity is a psychometric test by AULIVE that assesses creativity of an individual for identifying opportunities and coming up with an innovative solutions. Creativity is the key driver in the market to boost or enhance competitive edge. According to the TestMyCreativity results, my creativity score is 66.5 that is greater than a typical score of 63.43. The result is presented in the below figure. Figure 2: Results of TestMyCreativity Source: (Testmycreativity 2017) The first parameter is abstraction. It refers to the ability of an individual to abstract from ideas. As seen in the figure, my score on abstraction is higher than the standard score that explains my ability for abstraction is greater than most of the people. I have a tendency to process information in complex symbols that one cannot see of touch. I support this score because when I was a kid, I related using the best strategy in football is to involve most talented players with my cognitive strength in examination. The second parameter is connection that refers to the ability of an individual to connect between things having no apparent connection originally. My score is same to any other typical individual as I believe creativity is just connecting things. I have a habit of experimenting and synthesizing new things that adds to my experiences. The third parameter is perspective that refers to the ability to shift ones perspective, with regard to time and space depending on the situation. I score higher on perspective than the typical people. Multiple ideas occur to me and I do not settle on a perspective easily. For example, once I lost a hundred dollar ticket while arriving at a play. My friends had different perspective as it was an opportunity to buy another ticket and double the cost of play. I had a different perspective as I considered the lost ticket as attended the play and moved to some other activity worth that value of money. The fourth parameter is curiosity that refers to the desire to improve situations which is accepted as norm by everyone else. I have the same score to that of a typical person. I believe that curiosity cultivates creativity. I have a tendency to know things and reasons behind situations. I like to be knowledgeable for logical thinking. The fifth parameter is boldness that refers to the confidence to push borders beyond a point. It can also be called as the ability to eliminate fear of what other people think of me. My score for boldness is less than the typical individual. It is true that I am moved by what people would think of my ideas. As stated earlier, I am confused if I should present my ideas or suggestions in front of people as I am not bold enough to stand by it. The sixth parameter is paradox that can be defined as the ability to simultaneously accept and work with statements that are contradictory. My results for paradox are slightly higher than the typical individual. I possess great concentration and have the ability to switch from one perspective to another. However, I enjoy the process of creation which is my strongest trait. The seventh parameter is complexity that refers to the ability to carry huge amount of information and ability to mould relationships between such information. My result for complexity is greater than the typical individual. I have a habit of talking through an approach and solve the problems with another person before starting it myself. I have taken improvisation class that has helped me in coming up with unscripted ideas. The last parameter is persistence that refers to the ability to strive and gain best solutions even when good ones have been generated. In my opinion, persistence is the key to creative success. I judge the quality of the solutions and always strive to come up with better ones. As far as creativity is concerned, in my mind it is not enough to just have ideas, or to be able to appraise them critically, or to sell, translate, or market them. What separates truly creative greats from those who are less creative is the aspect of persistence. Conclusion Based on the above results, I need to improve both enterprising and creativity skills. I aspire to start my own venture with a business solution that has not been invented till date. I need to work on my risk taking skills and understand that failure is a part of life. I can be successfully outperform others if I come up with authentic ideas and adopt radical innovations rather than making incremental innovation each time. I shall be open and aware looking for possible solutions. My weakest character trait is lack of self-confidence that suppresses my ideas and I am not able to present it. I need to work on this character trait strongly so that I can be more enterprising. I need to enhance my imagination which will enable me to quickly, creatively, effectively and often diplomatically find a solution to a problem. If people feel more involved and that their ideas are welcome they are more likely to put forward other ideas. I shall put up my ideas so that the best one can be selected and I have an opportunity to come up with better suggestions.
